A little more than six months after a Bedford Park house collapsed killing a 19-year-old construction worker in the basement, the site has been filled in.
The vacant lot sitting at what used to be a two-storey post-war home at 245 Brookdale Ave. was left as a large hole after the debris was cleared from the site in the fall.
Attached to a tree in the yard and surrounded by orange fencing is a small memorial — a gold cross with the name of worker Ryan Pearce, who died when the house came down during an underpinning job Sept. 9.
Three other construction workers were in the house at the time of the collapse. Two escaped on their own while the third was freed by Toronto Fire, who used airbags to lift a beam off the trapped worker.
