Shannon Doyle
Doyle is one popular lady at Bishop Strachan. The soccer and hockey teams’ MVP has a promising career following in the skatepaths of Angela James and Hayley Wickenheiser as she is a gold medal winner on the Under 18 Canada Team. Be sure to look for the boarding school’s ambassador on the Sochi 2014 Olympic team.

Wilson Lee
A man of volleyball, badminton and basketball, Lee led his Bears into battle on all courts.

Namdal Tenzin
Also partaking in basketball, volleyball and badminton, Tenzin was Lee’s female counterpart as both she and Lee won Athletes of the Year at Bloor CI.

Elizabeth Whelan
Back-to-back treks to OFSAA for track and field are not the only talents on Whelan’s sports resume. The 16-year-old has qualified for the national games in Moncton in addition to picking up a silver medal in the 800-metre race at OFSAA this year. Described by her coaches as a hardworking and generous spirit, she also shows the focus to be a successful individual athlete as well.

Just four sports would do for Fraser. A member of the cross-country, hockey, ultimate Frisbee and track and field teams, he was the Senior Male Athlete of the Year for the Oaklands and brought home a CISAA championship in ultimate Frisbee.

Master of field hockey, volleyball, softball as well as track and field, Cioci was also on the honour roll and is finishing up on achieving her gold level in figure skating.

Striking down batters as the Falcons undefeated pitching ace, Suzuki also swam laps on the swim team and whacked birdies in badminton. He inputs his sporting knowledge on his school’s athletic council, showing what his coaches say is “a great desire to give back to his fellow students”.

Hockey and soccer consumed Shapero’s extra-curricular time while at Forest Hill. The president of her school’s Athletic Council, she worked hard to pump up her teammates and fellow students.

This 18-year-old is competitive in volleyball, basketball and ultimate Frisbee. But McMurtry is always one to try new sports, namely European handball. MVP in all three of his sports, achieving an 89-percent average in class, the committed McMurtry is definitely going to achieve some big goals at McGill for engineering.

A member of the under-20 soccer, volleyball and tennis teams, Lloyd and her team came in third place in CISAA’s Division I volleyball league. A consistently active member of Greenwood athletics since grade 7, she achieved a 90-percent average in grade 12.

Campbell has taken part in two seasons of soccer for seven years straight. If 14 kicks at the ball were not enough, hockey and badminton were added to her busy schedule, where she captained both squads. Her coaches describe her as “loyal, enthusiastic and … always willing to put forth time and determination to do her best”.

The Panthers put in two names this year as their top male and female athletes. Mihkel Kutti and Brooklyn Glover were chosen by the Avenue Road and Lawrence Avenue area school as the top of their pack.

Four sports kept Kanopoulos busy when he was taking a breather from the books. The accomplished gridiron battler, icepad denizen, rugby fiend and footie fanatic captained all those teams and even travelled to France with his club soccer team.

Petsis definitely gets into the swing of things with tennis, volleyball and soccer as her mainstays. No stranger to OFSAA, the 18-year-old’s success with racket and foot has snared attention from some universities south of the border offering her scholarships for tennis.

[u]Loretto Abbey Catholic Secondary School[/u]

Atop the hill at York Mills and Yonge, Loretto Abbey crowned Heather MacKinnon and Ceceila Garcia as their top two athletes at the all-girls school.

[u]Loretto College School[/u]

Kayla Picanco
In the heart of the Regal Heights community, Picanco gave it her all on the soccer pitches and volleyball courts. Being the MVP of those two sports garnered her accolades from local media. The 17-year-old’s soccer skills have landed her a scholarship to Purdue University in Indiana.

[u]Marc Garneau CI[/u]

Andrew Marges
One tough customer in football, baseball and volleyball this versatile player shows good leadership skills in both team and individual sports. He even stepped in to help coach the girls’ softball team during the 2009-10 season.

Rebecca Chang
Only in grade 11, Chang has proven her worth in basketball, soccer and volleyball. The honour roll student was president of Garneau’s Athletic Association, coached junior soccer in her community and led a school trip to Algonquin Park.

[u]Marshall McLuhan Catholic Secondary School[/u]

The top two Rebels coming out of Marshall McLuhan’s athletic department this year were Cane Bannon and Diana Velada.

[u]Northern Secondary School[/u]

President of the Girls’ Athletic Association at Northern, Davidson also captained the cross country and track and field teams. A recipient of Northern’s prestigious Pearl Kennedy Cup, awarded to a graduating athlete for outstanding contribution in all areas of sports, she has been commended for being a true leader. She is also a member of the Junior National Track Team that competed at the Worlds in Poland this year.

[u]North Toronto CI[/u]

[attach]1871[/attach]It’s been a busy year for the land of the Norsemen and women, as the school undergoes extensive construction. Still, phys-ed department head Lorne Smith nominated Mike Carew and Alisha Giel as the school’s top athletes.

[u]Oakwood CI[/u]

Julian Clarke
Clarke will be heading to Santa Clara, California this fall, and with him will be his work as a member of this year’s AAAA OFSAA basketball champs. Named to the Junior National Men’s basketball team, the Baron is flying high not just in sports but in academics too, with an average over 90 percent. His coach Anthony Miller lauds his 17-year-old cager, saying he “embodies everything that it means to be a student athlete”.

Melanie Henry
Multi-faceted is the word Henry’s coaches use to best describe her prowess in volleyball, basketball and soccer. She was junior athlete of the year at Oakwood in 2005-06 and a big contributor to the impressive girls’ basketball run in 2008-09.

[u]Sir Sanford Fleming Academy[/u]

Volleyball at Sir Sanford Fleming has its MVP for the 2009-10 campaign, Oribiana, to thank. The team finished in second place at the City Championships. The well-rounded student also dabbles in forensic science, is an Ontario Scholar and has been known to perform at Fleming Idol as well.

Not to forget the strong efforts from the men’s side of sports at the Academy, Efe Enoyoze was selected as the top male athlete from Sir Sanford Fleming.

When not shooting threes from the perimeter, Wickens is on the ice. And when she’s not shooting through the five-hole, she’s on the diamond smacking the cover off the softballs. The MVP of her teams, she helped her varsity hockey and softball teams win their respective championships. The Clementine alumna will be heading to Colgate University in Hamilton, New York to play for their women’s hockey team.

Whether it’s the rink, pitch or diamond, Vangou is on the go in just about any sport offered. Her school honoured her with the Sports Captain Award, one of the highest praises for leadership. She will be attending University of Western this fall after achieving an 87-percent average.

[u]St. Michael’s College School[/u]

Derek Wiggan
The Kerry Blues go-to guy on the gridiron and track, Wiggan is not just a formidable force on the field but in the classroom as well. The four-time honour roll student was named lineman of the year and took two trips to the Metro Bowl in 2007 and 2008.

[u]Upper Canada College[/u]

Nicholas Argiros
A member of the football, hockey and rugby teams, Argiros was a big help in his school’s AAA/AAAA OFSAA bronze medal hockey performance. This school prefect looks forward to playing football at university.

Moataz Al Hussaini
UCC’s star in soccer, basketball and rugby, Al Hussaini is credited with leading his teams to two consecutive CISAA championships. A resident of Istanbul, Turkey, his coaches say he has made a terrific adjustment to life away from home.

[u]Vaughan Road Academy[/u]

Picking up top nods from the Vipers athletics department are male athlete Fabio Ponti, as well as female stars Estelle Preiano and Ali Underhill.

[u]The York School[/u]
