Girls, teachers to face off in charity hockey game

Loretto Abbey cheque presentation
IN THE NAME OF CHARITY: Staff and students of Loretto Abbey Catholic Secondary School present a cheque to The Angel Foundation for Learning after their charity teacher-student hockey game last year.

The fifth annual hockey game between students and teachers at Loretto Abbey Catholic Secondary School will be seeing the puck drop April 15 at North Toronto Memorial Arena.

The game will feature the girls’ varsity team taking on the teachers. It will act as a fundraiser for The Angel Foundation for Learning, a charity run by the Toronto Catholic District School Board that offers educational, nutritional and social help and support programs to TCDSB students.

Grade 11 student Emily MacKinnon, the student council sports representative for Loretto Abbey, said the event is “a lot of fun” and will likely see about 200 people come out to watch.

“Parents, students and teachers come out and watch,” she said. “It’s a great day filled with lots of participation from the students and the staff.”

Celebrities have also been known to stop by for the game, MacKinnon said. Last year, Toronto Maple Leafs alumnus Shayne Corson joined the teachers’ team for part of the game.

The event runs from 11:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
