Teens face armed robbery rap
[attach]6757[/attach]Three teens are facing charges following an armed robbery in mid-January.
Police say on Jan. 19, three males robbed a 20-year-old man of his cellphone when he was near O’Connor Drive and Sunrise Avenue. On Feb. 1, police from 54 Division executed three search warrants near O’Connor and Victoria Park, during which time police say they seized clothing used during the robbery at all three locations. Police also found a loaded 12-gauge shotgun, crack cocaine and cash at one of the locations.
As a result of the investigation, 18-year-old Shaquille Robichaud has been charged with robbery, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a restricted weapon obtained by the commission of an offence, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of proceeds of crime. Tyrone Smith, 18, and a 15-year-old boy who can not be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, have both been charged with robbery.
Weapons seized in drug raids
Police from the drug squad seized a cache of weapons, ammunition, drugs and cash, and have charged three people after discovering a retail marijuana-trafficking location near Danforth and Donlands.
In a news release, police said on Jan. 24 they executed three search warrants in 54 and 43 Divisions, and it was during the first one, at Danforth and Donlands, where they discovered the retail set up.
Police allege the address was being used only to facilitate the sale of marijuana and help their customers obtain licences to possess marijuana. Police also say they found a small marijuana grow-op in the store, which was licensed by Health Canada to produce marijuana, but was exceeding the designated allotment for personal use and possession.
Police seized marijuana, hashish and proceeds of crime.
Two warrants were then executed in 43 Division near Kingston and Meadowvale roads in residential homes. There, police seized marijuana, hashish, psilocybin, and proceeds of crime.
Similar to the store, one of the homes also had a small grow op that was licenced, however was exceeding its allotment. Police also seized 17 long-barreled firearms, four pistols, a crossbow, more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition and more than $224,000. Police say two of the pistols were not registered.
In total, police seized over $200,000 worth of drugs, including 36 kg of marijuana, 1.5 kg of hashish and an undisclosed amount of psilocybin, also known as magic mushrooms.
Ana Koprivica, 50, was arrested Jan. 24 and charged with producing marijuana, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, possession of hashish for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of proceeds of crime. The same day, 59-year-old Richard Bradley was arrested and charged with two counts each of producing marijuana, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of hashish. The following day, 27-year-old Dean Cavan was arrested and charged with three counts each of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, possession of hashish, and possession of proceeds of crime; two counts each of producing marijuana and failing to comply with an undertaking; and one count each of possession of a controlled substance, possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking, and failing to comply with recognizance.
Suspect sought in shooting
Police are looking for a 19-year-old man following a shooting that sent another man to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police say that on Jan. 24 around 7 p.m., they were called to the scene of a shooting near Greenwood and Danforth. Police learned that a man got into an argument with a group of men and then left. They then allege the man returned with a handgun and shot one of the men in the group in the back. The suspect left the scene in a 2002 black Hyundai Santa Fe with Ontario licence plate BPBZ 292.
Wanted on one count of attempted murder is 19-year-old Javell Jackson. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous and not to approach him. If he is spotted, call 911 instead.
