The other Pottery Road is a mess

Zooming up the Bayview extension, many drivers take a shortcut to Moore Avenue by driving on a small strip of Pottery Road.

Disconnected from the better known Pottery Road further south in 1960 when the extension was constructed in 1960, this strip runs from Bayview to Moore between Loblaws and the TD Bank plaza.

To say this strip is not the smoothest road in Leaside is an understatement. In fact, councillor John Parker describes it as a war zone.

“I’m not sure why it has been left that long,” Parker says.

“It’s choppy. It could use resurfacing,” Leaside resident Marion Hum says. “I find it dangerous.”

Hum is more concerned with the fact the road is sandwiched between two parking lots.

“On the approach, you’re coming off the Bayview extension at a high speed and you suddenly have to break,” she says. “You’ve got this off ramp of the Bayview extension and you’ve got people backing out of Loblaws.”

Parker disagrees speed is an issue on that road but admits traffic can be a concern. “It is an unusual arrangement,” he says.

The problem is eliminated for people exiting from Pharma Plus on the TD side since concrete blocks force drivers to leave by the actual exit.
