Thief grabs bag of meds, gift cards

A woman was robbed of her prescription medication and gift cards while in the area of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue West on Jan. 21.

The 65 year old woman told police she was approached by a man around 5 p.m. The man stole the woman’s shopping bag, which contained prescription drugs and gift cards, police say. The man then fled. The woman was unharmed.

Teen mugged

A teen was left without a jacket and TTC tickets after being mugged near Eglinton Avenue West and Oriole Parkway on Jan. 19. Police say the 14 year old was in a park with friends just after 3 p.m. when a disguised individual approached and threatened him. The suspect then reportedly told the teen to remove his jacket, which contained change and TTC tickets. When the teen complied, the suspect grabbed the jacket and fled through the park. The teen was not injured.

Robbery at Lawrence Station

A woman had her cellphone stolen during a violent robbery at Lawrence subway station on Jan. 17.

Police say around 5:20 p.m., the woman, 25, was exiting the northbound train at the station when she was approached from behind by two men. The pair allegedly grabbed the woman’s arms and pushed her to the ground, removing her cellphone. The pair fled. The woman sustained minor injuries but sought her own medical attention, police say.

Biz owner held at gunpoint

The owner of a pharmacy was held at gunpoint during a store robbery the evening of Jan. 18. The 55 year old owner of Trang’s Pharmacy near Wilson and Dufferin avenues told police a man entered the pharmacy just after 11:30 a.m. and approached counter. He produced a handgun, police say, and demanded prescription drugs. When the owner complied, the gun-toter fled the scene southbound on Wilson. The pharmacy owner was unharmed.

Cellphone thefts

Police are warning about an ongoing trend of cell phone thefts, particularly iPhones and other higher-end smart-phones such as BlackBerrys. In many cases the owners of the phones are using them on the subway or in other public places when these thefts occur, police say.

The devices are being snatched directly out of the owners’ hands, and the thieves are making a quick getaway on foot.

Please be vigilant when using such devices under such conditions.

Never resist a thief in these types of circumstances, as you might get injured.
