Two men arrested, one still sought, for Thane Murray shooting

First-degree murder charges in police investigation of Regent Park killing

Two males, both 20, face murder charges nearly three months after the death of Thane Murray in the Regent Park area.

Murray, a well-known figure in the community known for his work in east-end recreation programs, was one of three men hit by gunfire near Oak and Sumach streets on the evening of Sept. 18.

Suffering multiple gunshots wounds, the 27-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene, while the two other victims were rushed to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

On Dec. 13, police arrested and charged Noah Anderson of Toronto.

The following day, Junior Jahmal Harvey of Toronto was arrested.

They each faces charges of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

They both appeared in court Dec. 14.

Police have also issued an arrest warrant for Jabreel Elmi, 27, of Toronto, who is wanted on the same charges.

He is described as five-foot-seven, 180 pounds, and having a stocky build.

Anyone seeing Elmi should not approach him as he is considered armed and dangerous, police say. Just call 911.

In a police news release today, Homicide Insp. Hank Idsinga said the arrests and charges in this case would not have been possible without the police’s close relationships with the communities.

“We continue to receive vital assistance from the public,” he said. “And on behalf of investigators, as well as victims’ families and loved ones, we are extremely grateful for this ongoing support.”

The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
