Kristyn Wong-Tam is celebrating her Ward 27 council seat.
Wong-Tam has garnered 28 percent of the votes. In a close second is former police officer Ken Chan, with 26 percent.
With long-time councillor Kyle Rae deciding to retire from elected office it opened the floodgate for candidates looking to replace him at city hall. Of the 15 registered candidates on the ballot in the early going Kristyn Wong-Tam is leading the pack.
In 2006 Rae took close to 57 percent of the vote defeating current candidates Leroux and Gapka by a wide margin. The voter turnout in Ward 27 last time around was below the city average with only 38 percent of eligible voters casting ballots.
