A woman in her 70s has died after a two-alarm fire in an apartment building in Beach Hill yesterday evening.
Firefighters, police and paramedics were called to 751 Woodbine Ave. near Gerrard Street East at about 9:40 p.m.
The fire was found inside an apartment in the building and a woman without vital signs was retrieved.
She was treated by paramedics and rushed in life-threatening condition to hospital. There she was pronounced dead.
A floor of the building was evacuated, Toronto Fire Services said. The TTC was reported to be sending shelter buses to the site.
Roads were closed in area, police said online.
Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg was on the scene and tweeted at 10:49 the fire was extinguished.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
The Toronto Fire investigation team was being called in to investigate, Pegg said during the early going.
But after the death was reported, the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office was notified to investigate.
