THE MINISTER: Don Valley West MP Rob Oliphant said he felt at home at St. Monica’s Catholic Church on Dec. 19.

School principal Vincent Tanzini said it was the second year in a row for the premier and MP to visit the students.

They were entertained by the Junior Concert Band, who opened with “Santa’s in the House” and “Jingle Bells,” and classes from junior kindergarten to Grade 6. The Wind Ensemble (Grade 8) wrapped up the event with their rendition of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”.

The Christmas concert was a culmination of a three-year pastoral plan focusing on family, parish and school.

“The school has had a strong tradition of celebrating Advent with a mass and Christmas concert,” Tanzini said, adding this was his fifth as the principal of the school.

Students were involved in every aspect from emceeing to program design. Grade 6 student Paul Perilla painted the Christmas tree for the program.

The event ended with a raffle, the proceeds going to purchase new folding tables for the school.
